Incubus - Leslie Stevens (1965)
Much better than I thought it would be. More than a touch of homage to Bergman. Beautiful photography by Conrad Hall. And yes, this is the famous for being the only feature film presented completely in Esperanto.

New York, New York - Martin Scorsese (1977)
I had seen this years ago, but finally noticed the placement/reference of famous paintings in the various set pieces: Rousseau, Mona Lisa, a portrait of George Washington. The sets are often theatrical flats rather than more realistic movie sets. Interestingly the film juxtaposes realistic method-style acting against these dream-like sets.

Run of the Arrow - Sam Fuller (1957)
Fuller makes movies in ALL CAPS all the time. Rod Steiger as the Confederate soldier with an Irish brogue who fired the final bullet in the American Civil War. Charles Bronson in red body paint playing a muscle-bound Sioux chief. Quicksand. Deadly contests. Interracial marriage.
