Tobacco Road - John Ford (1941)

I haven't read the book, but a glance at a synopsis of the novel made it clear that Ford and his screenwriter Nunally Johnson did something similar doing a all-dancing musical set in a Shriners childrens hospital. Bessie's hymns reflect Ford's interest in traditional American music.

Hop Harrigan - The Nazi Threat (1-27-1944)

The Last Broadcast - Stefan Avalos & Lance Weiler (1998)

Despite a disappointing ending, I enjoyed this smorgasbord of low-budget video techniques and humor. Prior to the final omnisient minutes I caught a whiff of _The Thin Blue Line_. Afterwards a scent of _Frenzy_. Loved the title "Editor for the Prosecution"

The Steel Helmet - Samuel Fuller (1951)

The first shot of the helmet transforming into a squirming, wounded Gene Evans grunting his way through his downed comrades is worth the price of admission alone.
