The Store - Frederick Wiseman (1983)
The flow of lingerie as manipulated by smoking suits in boardrooms. (They actually had meetings without PowerPoint back then!) Taste drafted and shaped in mirrored closets. Luxurious furs and jewelry justified with salesman's cooing. The guy in the elf suit keeps on keeping on. Wiseman's non-judgemental eye proves the weirdest people and situations are right over your shoulder.

Viva la Dance - Unseen Cinema Vol. 7 - Early American Avante Garde Film 1894-1941
Took me a while to watch this one, but the payoffs include a 17-year old Charlton Heston as Peer Gynt, a 20 minute dance with nothing but dozens of hands, a bit of Busby Berkeley and the wonderful flowing airy animation of Anthony Gross & Hector Hoppin.

Hootenanny Hoot - Gene Nelson (1963)
3 by Sheb Wooley. 1 by Johnny Cash. Judy Henske, the Beatnik Queen, signs a couple of fantastic songs. Putting her in a bikini wasn't the greatest idea in the world. Great pipes. Weird moves.

Persepolis - Marjane Satrapi (2003)
Probably the 4th time I've read this. Prepping for a discussion group tomorrow.

Shine a Light - Martin Scorsese (2008)
Whereas U2 3D is a concert film made up of words, Shine a Light is a concert film made up of faces. Ironically the small venue serves to fragment the band members even more than a space where the huge cameras could pull back to take in the full entourage. Scorsese mirrors Keith and Mick's on-stage demeanor with his own cinematic jokesmanship. Nice to see Albert Maysles in there.
Screened at Jordon's Furniture IMAX Theater in Reading

Tell It To the Marines - George W. Hill (1926)
Lon Chaney leaves his makup kit behind. William Haines flirts. Carmel Myers sits and claps among the natives. Watch those reactions flirt with Elanor Boardman's face. Warner Oland picks the short straw in the hat lottery. One of the best Hollywood silents I've seen yet.
