Hangman's House - John Ford (1928)

Fantastic "precredits" scene with Victor McLaglen in the French service. A telegram hangs over McLaglen's shoulder even as he blusters on to his fellow soldiers. You can see Ford's judicious use of camera movement even this early in his career. Irish resistance setting where informing is a worse crime than shooting a prize race horse. A couple of amazing stunt sequences: horseback jumping and falling from the balcony of a flaming castle.
